The Lakers officially declare the decision to add two starters from the Wizards in their trade package before the trade deadline.
Washington is definitely going to be selling off its trade assets as it makes its way to the top of the lottery. Point guard Tyus Jones is the most likely to be traded out of those trade assets because his contract is about to expire. Center Although it is unlikely that Daniel Gafford will be traded, he is a very intriguing player and would be a great addition to the Lakers.
The Lakers would acquire a point guard in this fictitious trade that can take D’Angelo Russell’s spot and actually start in the starting lineup. Despite his slight build, Jones is a dependable guard who would fit right in with the Lakers.
Though he is hardly a defensive threat, the six-one guard is a competent perimeter defender who can make baskets, assist with passing the ball, and isn’t very demanding on the ball. During the season, Jones is averaging 12.6 points, 5.5 assists, and 1.2 steals in 28 minutes per game. He is making 42.5% of his three-pointers, 53.7% of his field goals, and 77.3% of his free throws from the line.
In contrast, if the Lakers wanted to abandon their over-reliance on one-way wings in the starting five, they could certainly start Gafford, a big man. It wouldn’t help the Lakers’ spacing because Gafford isn’t a floor spacer, but the team doesn’t exactly have outstanding three-point shooters in the starting five either.
