The Los Angeles Lakers have mutually agreed to sign a “unrealistic” $120 million star trade target: internal source
It’s possible that the Los Angeles Lakers won’t sign former All-Star Dejounte Murray.
NBA insider Marc Stein claims that it currently seems “unrealistic” for the Lakers to sign Murray.
“According to league sources, the Hawks and Lakers have had little to no trade discussions in the past few days regarding former All-Star Dejounte Murray.
Although trade negotiations are often a moving target this time of year and are easily reignited, one person briefed on the discussions described Murray joining the Lakers by this Sunday’s deadline as “unrealistic.” Stein reported this in his substack newsletter on January 28.
According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Hawks are looking for a starting-level player and two first-round picks.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, previous trade discussions between the Lakers and Hawks focused on D’Angelo Russell, a 2029 first-round draft pick, and a pick swap. The Hawks, however, desired a third team to switch up Russell’s play, as his comeback has changed the Lakers’ season.
Russell led the Lakers to a thrilling 145-144 double-overtime victory over the Golden State Warriors, contributing 28 points and five assists. The Lakers improved their record to one game over.500 with their fifth victory in their previous seven games.
Russell has performed admirably in eight games since making his way back into the starting lineup. During this time, he is shooting 52.3% from the field and 54.2% from beyond the arc, averaging 27.5 points and 6.4 assists per game.
