The Chicago Bulls’ wingman Zach LaVine has been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers, but that doesn’t mean the Lakers won’t try to add another Bulls guard to bolster their backcourt. Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report reports that the Lakers, who desperately need a reliable point guard, might want to look closely at Bulls backup guard Jevon Carter. Though he was underutilized in the Windy City, Carter was once considered a steal for the Bulls after he was acquired in the offseason. The 28-year-old guard was valued for his tough defense, strong work ethic, and spot-up shooting, qualities that made him an excellent complement to players like LaVine and DeMar DeRozan.
With just over 14 minutes played per game this season on a crowded Bulls roster, Carter’s playing time has been restricted. He hasn’t been able to establish a regular position on the team despite showing glimpses of promise; he currently plays as the Bulls’ third-string point guard.
This season, Carter will provide the Lakers with much-needed tough defense and consistent shooting, which may relieve some of the pressure on LeBron James and Anthony Davis if the defense crumbles around them.
