BBC NEWS: The New York Mets completed a terrible uniform decision in 2024.

For the 2024 season, the New York Mets are making an unneeded and unwanted alteration to their black uniforms. Both the jersey and the cap are being stripped of their white backgrounds.

For the 2024 season, the New York Mets are making an unwanted and needless alteration to their black uniforms. The cap logo and uniform lettering will no longer have the white background shadow on them.

The article was published by Paul Lukas of Uni-Watch and includes images that contrast the 2023 and the updated version.

The Mets have been removing the white shadow from their black alternate cap this season, as we have known for a few weeks. This has some people wondering if the team is also doing away with the white layer from their black alternate jerseys.

I can now vouch for the fact that they are doing precisely that, as evidenced by this page from the 2024 MLB Style Guide that I received from a reliable source:

The NOB lettering, the numbers, and the script have all lost their white layer, as you can see. I apologize for the crooked mock-ups, but the new Style Guide format makes it difficult to distinguish between the front and back views. Here is a comparison of the old and new designs:

Although there isn’t a good black Mets jersey in my opinion, there are certainly worse ones than worse, and the newer models aren’t much better than the older ones. Everything stood out a bit more thanks to the white layer.

The Mets made a strange move, in my opinion. The team must be trying to make better use of its orange and blue colors by doing away with the white, but the uniforms don’t have the same striking effect as they once did. Lukas concurs unequivocally, stating that the white made everything look better.

The royal blue Mets uniforms are the best, in my opinion.
