Is the Miami Heat considering a future with Tim Hardaway Jr.?
According to Tim Hardaway Sr., he has been attempting to convince his son, Tim Hardaway Jr., to sign with the Miami Heat.
On Tuesday, Mike Miller and Udonis Haslem, two former Heat players, joined Hardaway Sr. on The OGs Show. When asked if Tim Hardaway Jr., his son, would ever play for the Heat, Hardaway Sr.
Hardaway Sr. replied, “I’ve been trying to get him in a Heat jersey.” “You are not going to wear my jersey,” he said then. Since 2009, Hardaway Sr.’s “10” has been hanging in the Kaseya Center’s rafter.
This season, Hardaway Jr. started playing for the Dallas Mavericks wearing his father’s number 10. Since being traded to the Mavericks during the 2019 trade deadline, he has been a member of the team. Off the bench, Hardaway Jr. has proven to be a productive player. This season, he has the third-highest scoring average on the team (17.3).
Hardaway Jr.’s contract is valid through the 2024–2025 campaign. The Heat would need to trade for him before the next offseason, or wait until then to sign him. Hardaway Jr. could be used off the bench as a sparkplug. He would play a part akin to Tyler Herro’s in 2021–2022, the year he was named the Sixth Man of the Year.
At the most recent trade deadline, there were rumors that the Heat were trying to acquire Hardaway Jr. The Heat would have to reduce salary if they wanted to sign Hardaway Jr. because they will already be over the salary cap for the upcoming season. Duncan Robinson, who will earn just under $20 million in 2024–2025, could be traded.
