BBC NEWS:Transfer targets , Norwich City, and link new deals with EFL clubs.

Ihionvien, 19, has mostly played as a substitute and has two goals and an assist in 11 league games.

It has been announced that he will remain at Colchester United beyond the summer of 2024, which was the original expiration date of his contract. The striker signed a one-year contract extension with the club earlier today, which will keep him with the team until 2025.

If the new contract is sufficient to stifle interest in the talented striker, only time will tell. If someone wants to sign him later in the next year, they will need to pay a transfer fee, but at the very least, it safeguards the U’s financial interests.

It’s hardly surprising that teams like Leicester City have expressed interest in Ihionvien given how well he performed in the early stages of his Colchester United breakthrough. Ihionvien’s perception is also evident further up the ladder, as seen by the Premier League’s interest, with League Two officials considering him a player with great potential.

The interested parties will now have to pay a transfer fee for any transaction made over the next year or so, which gives Colchester a significant bargaining advantage.

Whether their initial interest in Ihionvien turns into something more substantial will have to wait. It’s certain that more suitors may surface soon if he continues to attract attention.
