BBC NWES: Leeds United are finally set to receive a £21 million transfer windfall before the January transfer market opens.

The Whites weren’t able to bring in that much money during the summer window due to the sheer volume of players that were shipped out on loan.

Having sold Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips in the summer of 2022, it is very clear by Leeds’ Championship status that the players who replaced those two weren’t up to the standard required.

A £55million departure to Barcelona, orchestrated by his agent and now Barcelona sporting director Deco, Raphinha has done fairly well in La Liga thus far with a league title under his belt in his first season.

He joined Barcelona in the midst of their huge financial concerns, triggering financial ‘levers’ in order to pursue major signings such as Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde and more.

Now, Football Insider are reporting that Leeds are due for a huge instalment from the Catalan giants before the new year and January window.

They claim that Barcelona are expected to pay Leeds £21million, but that doesn’t mean that the La Liga giants are out of the woods yet, with more long-term payments still due further down the line.

This comes after claims from local outlet Ara that Barcelona still owed hundreds of millions in transfer fees to Leeds and others, while the Whites chased up the bank in order to cover the instalments Barcelona had essentially failed to pay, with interest adding up too from the bank.

Barcelona were buying players with money they simply didn’t have in the summer of 2022 and Raphinha was one of them.

Thankfully for us, it looks as though we’re not going to be short-changed by Barcelona, otherwise legal proceedings would have been long and tiresome.

It’s good to see that Raphinha is shining still at the Camp Nou, but the 49ers won’t care all that much as long as they’re getting their money.
