Daniel Farke sprung a surprise in his Leeds United starting XI against Bristol City on Saturday.
The debate heading into kick-off surrounded who would be at left-back, with Jamie Shackleton and Junior Firpo absent, and Sam Byram’s availability uncertain.
However, with Byram fit enough to play 90 minutes for the third time in a week, it was at right-back where Farke made a shock change.
With Luke Ayling not having been at his best in midweek, Glen Kamara was brought into midfield, with Archie Gray moving into defence.
Gray has played there occasionally at youth level for England, but it was a change that no one expecting going into the match.
Just like he has done with everything so far this season, though, Gray took the switch in position into his stride, producing a strong display.
The ‘phenomenal’ Gray offered plenty in possession, but most importantly, didn’t give any of his direct opponents anything as he helped shore up the right side of defence.

This may have a real knock on effect for Ayling, who is already facing a real fight for his position once Djed Spence and Shackleton return to fitness.
Ayling has played plenty of minutes so far this term but it is difficult to see how they will come regularly once everyone is back in contention for selection.
There is no doubt Ayling still has plenty to offer in the dressing room with his exceptional leadership skills and experience, but regular minutes may just be about to seriously diminish.
