BBC Report: £45m Man City player wants to stay at the Etihad despite big PL interest….

Kalvin Phillips reportedly still wants to stay at Manchester City, regardless of the potential arrival of Matheus Nunes.

After starting just four games last season, the midfielder said earlier in the summer that his plan is to stay at City and fight for a place in the team.

With the Citizens looking to secure a transfer deal for Nunes from Wolves, some fresh behind-the-scenes information has emerged regarding the Englishman’s current stance heading into the final days of the summer window.

A recent report from the Daily Mail had this to say on the matter.

It said: “Kalvin Phillips has no desire to leave City despite the pending arrival of Nunes. A number of Premier League clubs have been looking into a loan while City would also consider selling but the England international still wants to fight for his place.

City signed the 27-year-old from Leeds United last summer in a deal worth £45m. However, Phillips only started four of the 21 games he appeared in, with two of those starts coming in the Premier League, but only after the Citizens were crowned champions

.

Having yet to make an appearance for Pep Guardiola’s side this season, it seems that the England international has a big challenge ahead of him in terms of getting into this City team and playing regularly, even before Nunes potentially gets added to the squad.

Moving forward, it seems that the final days of the summer transfer window could be interesting in terms of whether or not a suitable offer comes City’s way for Phillips and if the Manchester club decides to move the player on, regardless of his intentions to stay and fight for a place in the team.
