Sky Austria claim Leeds United are planning to keep Max Wober at Elland Road ahead of the 2024-25 season but only on one condition – if the Whites manage to gain an instant return to the Premier League.
Wober was one of eight senior players to leave Leeds using the relegation loan clause. Marc Roca, Robin Koch, Luis Sinisterra, Jack Harrison, Rasmus Kristensen, Diego Llorente and Brenden Aaronson, as well.
The 25-year-old has played in all eight of Gladbach’s games since joining the club – starting in each of them. He has only been subbed off once. It comes just six months after joining us in January for £10.5m.
Leeds did not want to lose Wober in the summer, and when he told Daniel Farke he wanted to go – just before a friendly against Monaco, it came as a surprise. Pascal Struijk has filled the gap with aplomb.
But the latest report shares what Leeds plan to do with Wober next summer when his loan comes to an end. They report Leeds will look to keep Wober at Elland Road, but only if the Whites gain promotion.
Wober has unfinished business at Leeds but he clearly does not want to be playing in the second tier. It is understandable – but, Leeds fans do not like how Wober jumped at the first chance to leave the club.
It is not as if Leeds are lacking in options in that role, either. Liam Cooper though, is out of contract at the end of the season. Pascal Struijk has been incredible for Leeds this season, alongside Joe Rodon.
It is unclear what Gladbach want to do in terms of a permanent move for Wober and given it is only October, it is likely that they are yet to make a decision until later on in the 2023-24 season.
