Football Transfers claim Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Manchester City player Kalvin Phillips ahead of a possible move for the England man in January – just 18 months after leaving Leeds United.
Phillips, 27, has obviously struggled at Manchester City. The 28-time England star failed to shake off a shoulder injury during the first six months of his City spell, only just squeezing into the World Cup side.
The Leeds academy product has since played just 26 games since joining City more than a year ago. On Sunday, despite Rodri’s absence, Phillips was an unused sub in the 1-0 loss to Arsenal at The Emirates.
The latest report says Tottenham – who have a good connection with Leeds – are keeping tabs ahead of the January window. iNews say Everton and Newcastle are interested in signing the ex-Leeds midfielder.
Leeds have Joe Rodon and Djed Spence on loan from Spurs, while Gretar Steinsson has joined us as a technical director from the North London club. Spurs are eyeing a possible January swoop for Phillips.
Tottenham keeping tabs on Phillips, 18 months after Leeds exit
Spurs would be a wonderful move for Phillips. Ange Postecoglou may need midfield reinforcements, as cover for Yves Bissouma who is going to pick up many suspensions judging by his early form this term.
Pape Matar Sarr is quality, yet inexperienced. Oliver Skipp is good cover, while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is being linked with the exit door. Given his lack of game time since leaving us, this would be a great move.
Could we see him in a Leeds shirt again? Well, we will have to be in the Premier League and even then, it seems unlikely. Unless, we establish ourselves in the top tier and Phillips still struggles for minutes.
