Leeds United attacker Willy Gnonto may not be fully ready to make his first-team return until December, according to Dr Rajpal Brar

The injury expert claims that eight weeks is what it takes for lateral ankle ligament damage along with bone injuries.

The Athletic’s Phil Hay reported on September 23 that he will require surgery on the bone rather than the injured ligament.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said about Gnonto:

If the surgery is for his fibula which is the lower outer leg bone, the most commonly injured bone along with lateral ankle ligaments, then he’s looking at six to eight weeks.

That would align with reports he’s out until the November international break.

“There’s also a possibility that given his lay-off he makes his first-team return in early December.

The 19-year-old ended up staying at Elland Road after a chaotic summer where it looked like he was going to leave.

He even handed in his transfer request and it seemed to have reached a point of no return for the Italy international.

However, he’s since been onside with Daniel Farke who chose to reintegrate him and even handed him five starts in the league this season.

His absence will be dearly missed and it will be a chance for Jaidon Anthony or Crysencio Summerville to make that spot their own.
