The latest Leicester City news as the academy graduate is one of a few players with just one year remaining on their deals with the club.
Leicester City are reportedly planning on opening contract talks with homegrown midfielder Hamza Choudhury, after he was linked with a summer move away from the club.
The 25-year-old returned to City in the summer, after spending last season on loan with Championship side Watford. He has come on as a late substitute in three of City’s five league games so far this season, while playing the full 90 minutes of the Carabao Cup wins over Burton Albion and Tranmere Rovers.
Choudhury has just a year remaining on his current contract at the King Power Stadium. According to TEAMtalk , City are keen to get the academy graduate tied down to a new deal in order to avoid losing him for nothing in just under a year.
The report says that ‘a number of clubs’ are keeping an eye on the player’s situation, but City are ‘eager’ to discuss new terms and offer him a new contract to extend his stay.
The report comes as Southampton were one of the teams said to be showing interest in Choudhury during the summer transfer window. The Saints were said to be ‘looking at’ a potential deal, with the final decision down to Enzo Maresca.
The City boss was said to see the midfielder as a key part of his plans this season, leading to a transfer not being sanctioned. Speaking about Choudhury, Maresca outlined his importance , alongside James Justin.
With Hamza (Choudhury), they work very well,” he said. “These players are going to stay. We need them. We need JJ, we need Hamza, we need these types of players.”
During his loan spell last season, Choudhury made a total of 36 Championship appearances for Watford. All but one came in the starting XI.
