Greetings for Cowboys Top 10 of the NFL season in 2023. It’s midseason at last! Six teams that were among the top 11 in the NFL Power Rankings from the previous week were represented in three of the games played over the weekend. Our top 10 this week was significantly impacted by the outcomes of those games, and one team was eliminated.
In addition, our NFL Nation reporters select a non-QB MVP for each club because it is midseason. We list an MVP who is not the quarterback for each and every one of the following: running backs who have scored a touchdown in 17 straight games, receivers who are on track to shatter the receiving record, the top defender on the NFL’s top defense, dependable centers on underperforming teams who are just incredibly courteous.
Here are the revised rankings, beginning with the Philadelphia Eagles, who are ranked first both this week and last week.
Our panel of over eighty writers, editors, and television personalities ranks the NFL clubs from 1 to 32 in order to assess how they compare to one another.
Ranking for Week 9: 1
WR A.J. Brown is the non-QB MVP.
Throughout the first half, Brown has been among the most influential players in the league. He became the first player in history to reach 125 yards or more in receptions in six straight games. Additionally, he broke the franchise record for the fastest player to reach 1,000 receiving yards in nine games. “He’s on an unbelievable historic tear right now,” Brian Johnson, the offensive coordinator, said, “and it’s a testament to him, who he is as a person, to how serious he is about perfecting his craft and making the most of his opportunities.” — McManus, Tim
2. Kansas City Chiefs (7-2)
Week 9 ranking: 3
Non-QB MVP: TE Travis Kelce
The Chiefs have several defenders playing well, but Kelce to a large extent has carried the passing game with the other receivers struggling. He has 25% of the Chiefs’ catches (57) and 24% of their receiving yards (597). He returned from an ankle injury to be a key player in a Week 5 win over the Vikings. — Adam Teicher
3. The 7-2 Baltimore Ravens
Ranking for Week 9: 4
MLB Roquan Smith, not a quarterback
As the team’s quarterback and top tackler, he leads a defense that has given up the fewest points in the NFL this year (13.8), which is two fewer points per game than any other team. Smith has accumulated 87 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 5 passes defensed while playing all over the field. His influence as a strong, passionate leader is indescribable. Smith addresses the team during the last pregame huddle on the field, much like Ray Lewis did years ago. He sets the team’s tone without a doubt. The safety Kyle Hamilton of the Ravens commented, “His energy is infectious.” “When you’re out, you don’t want to be the guy who doesn’t match his energy.”
