Should Leeds United be keen to dip into the transfer market for key signings in the January window, they are expected to be looking at loan deals.
The Whites are in the midst of an international break, sitting fairly comfortably in the mix for promotion already as they moved to fifth this month, but with plenty still to improve on.
Daniel Farke will be happy with his side’s progress so far, having overseen a turbulent summer transfer window.
Fans might already be looking ahead to the new year where Leeds might be keen to invest and bolster their chances of ending the season in the top two, having seen a slower start than the pace-setters in the automatic promotion slots.
Leeds Live journalist Beren Cross has now shared that if the club are going to be pursuing new arrivals in January, loans will be the avenue:
“Loans will form the basis of Leeds United’s January transfer strategy if Daniel Farke needs reinforcements when the window opens. Joe Rodon, Djed Spence and Jaidon Anthony all arrived on temporary deals in the summer, leaving two spots free on the loan register.
It’s been made fairly clear that Farke would like two players for each position, and the majority of the squad seems adequately covered in that regard.
Left-back could be a route for Leeds to explore, knowing that their options – Sam Byram and Junior Firpo – are both extremely injury-prone and difficult to totally rely on for a 46-game slog.
Further up the field, it was also clear that Leeds would have liked an attacking midfielder after trying to sign Nadiem Amiri, and that might be another position that the club take a look at.
With two loan spots open for us, it does look like we should be looking at those sorts of signings in January.
It’s always hard to find real value in the new year with permanent deals, but getting a loan in for someone who needs playing time is ideal.
The Premier League will have plenty of players that would drop down into the promotion race in the EFL, and we are a side that must be attractive to some.
