Bohan Adderley, 17, has signed a deal with the New York Mets, becoming one of the 20 international prospects signed during the 2024 Major League Baseball (MLB) International Signing period. Adderley’s story is one of passion and perseverance. This young player, a center fielder and shortstop, is from the International Elite (I-Elite) Sports Academy, which serves as a development program for gifted athletes.
A Path from Apathy to Commitment
It’s interesting to note that Adderley didn’t really care for baseball at first. The sport played by his friends and older brother was the catalyst for his passion. His brief three-week stay at Freedom Farm served as the beginning of his baseball career. In 2015, he took a break and went back to the diamond, this time signing with the Junior Baseball League of Nassau (JBLN).
For Adderley, switching to I-Elite was a big step in his career. He developed his abilities and resolve by juggling his academics and demanding training. His development and exceptional talent won him a desired roster spot with the New York Mets. Adderley has acknowledged the importance of his family, coaches, and God throughout his journey and has always been grateful for their contributions to his development.
Geron Sands, the head coach and co-founder of I-Elite, expressed his pride in Adderley’s accomplishment. In addition, Sands expressed regret about the change from the Academy to professional baseball. The signing was celebrated by New York Mets representative David Keller, who acknowledged The Bahamas’ athletic legacy and the start of a new partnership with the I-Elite program. The signing ceremony served as a testament to Adderley’s diligence and the combined strength of his network of supporters.
