Latest Anfield Road Stand photos – showing 150 new seats in the bottom row
The new Anfield Road Stand continues to take shape ahead of the unveiling of the new season.
The Anfield skyline has changed dramatically over the past 20 months, with the new stand now matching the stature of the main stand.
It offers impressive views over the Anfield area, with external works giving us an idea of the finished product.
There were hints on social media that the media would be made aware of a delay this week but This Is Anfield understands that is not the case.
Liverpool are still planning their first home game against Bournemouth on August 19, hopefully with a crowd of 61,000. You can see in the two images below that the new top layer itself is now structurally complete, following the removal of the old top layer and roof earlier this month.

The removal of the old roof and the pillar that supported it results in a new small block of seats being created in the bottom row. The image below shows where approximately 150 new bottom row seats will be installed, bringing the bottom row capacity to approximately 6,500.
Stadium manager Paul Cuttill explained to This Is Anfield last month: “Once we’ve done the demolition and removed the steel, we could clear some seats, some space to put some seats in.”
There will also be the strange location of the old support beams, those posts that obscured the view of the lower level.
The changes from now on may not be as noticeable as they were in previous updates, but we can already begin to see the work starting on the road the new stand will travel.
In the photos below you can see a row of concrete blocks forming the outline of the new road, with asphalt being laid for what will become a new paved area (image below).
With the new large top of the Anfield Road/Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand corner installed and most of the stonework completed, much of the scaffolding will be removed. As for the inside of the stadium, we can see that the pitch protection system is still there, but it will be removed very soon to build the new pitch.
Solar panels are placed on the roof.
The new pitch is due to be laid next week and will take just three days to lay and three weeks to be ready for matches: there is still plenty of time before Jurgen Klopp’s side hit the pitch. Look closely at these two and you’ll see Goodison Park in the distance across from Stanley Park!
Inside work is where much of the action takes place, and while there is still plenty to do for contractors The Buckingham Group, the first home game is almost two months away and work continues around the clock.
