Charlie Cresswell is a loan target for Eintracht Frankfurt and Stuttgart with the pair considering a move should the centre-back not feature regularly for Leeds United.
That is according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (6/8; page 59), which notes that the Bundesliga sides plan to monitor the 20-year-old during this season.
Charlie Cresswell handed Leeds a big boost this week, with the club announcing that the defender had signed a new contract at Elland Road.
The youngster has also taken the number five shirt following the departure of Robin Koch. So it would appear that Daniel Farke has high hopes for the academy graduate
But he is going to face a challenge to get into the side. Leeds have, so far, kept Liam Cooper and Pascal Struijk. And it would not be entirely surprising to see further reinforcements arrive before the deadline passes. There is also the potential for Ethan Ampadu to move back if Tyler Adams remains at Leeds.
The Sun on Sunday (6/8; page 59) reports that Frankfurt and Stuttgart are planning to keep an eye on Cresswell. Of course, a move to the 2022 Europa League winners would see Cresswell potentially playing alongside Koch, following his switch earlier in the summer.
The report suggests that Cresswell is only likely to leave on loan if he does not get regular starts. That would surely hint that a move may come onto the radar in a future window as Farke is going to need plenty of time to settle on his preferred squad.
Leeds also have to factor in that they only have one remaining spot left for international loans. Given what has happened already, you would not be surprised if Max Wober was not the last loan exit.
Cresswell is arguably going to be one of the players who could benefit from Leeds’ relegation. His potential has long been undeniable. But taking that step into the first-team was going to be much tougher had we remained in the Premier League.
This year could be a real breakout campaign for Cresswell. And hopefully, there is little reason for any further speculation about his future to crop up over the coming months.
