Breaking News: farke made Fee agreement in place for loan player to permanent Leeds United exit in 2024…

Leeds United attacker Sam Greenwood is currently on loan at Middlesbrough, but will be able to make the move permanent for £1.5million.

The overriding theme of the summer window for Leeds after relegation was the sheer volume of players leaving on loan.

A large number of them were out of the club’s control due to loan clauses, while some were required to allow players much better player time.

A loan move across the Championship materialised for Sam Greenwood as he headed to Middlesbrough for the season, closer to home in the North East.

He returned to his boyhood club Sunderland at the weekend aiming to continue Michael Carrick’s resurgence for ‘Boro after a concerning start to the season.

Greenwood started and got on the scoresheet as a red card for the home side tipped the scales well in favour of ‘Boro, ending up winning 4-0.

It looks as though Greenwood’s time at Leeds could be coming to an end if he enjoys a strong spell with his current club.

That’s according to The Athletic, who report that the Teesside club hold an option to buy of £1.5million, but have time on their side to come to a decision:

“Middlesbrough – and Greenwood – have the remainder of the season to assess the potential of a permanent transfer.”

Such a fee would see Leeds break even on the fee they paid to sign the attacker from Arsenal back in the summer of 2020.

Greenwood never looked like making the grade as being a Leeds regular, for whatever reason, and a permanent move to Middlesbrough would make sense.

However, the fee we’re letting them pay for him doesn’t make much sense, when he’s got just under three years left on his current deal.

There is a very talented player in there and one that a good manager can find the best from, that man being Carrick.
