German news outlet BILD has revealed that Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are already planning their life beyond Thomas Tuchel.
The publication writes that they have set their sights on Real Madrid’s managerial target Xabi Alonso once Tuchel’s reign as Bayern Munich manager is over.
The former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder, who is currently leading Bayer Leverkusen, is said to be Bayern’s top target so much so that those sitting in the higher offices are unequivocal in their admiration for the Spaniard.
Big test for Alonso awaits
On Friday, as Leverkusen visit the Allianz Arena for the highly anticipated Bundesliga showdown, the Bayern coach will find himself confronting not only the most formidable contender for the Meisterschale title but also crossing paths with Bayer’s accomplished coach for the very first time.
For what it is worth, it is going to be a big test for Alonso after all, as the leadership at Bayern holds a deep appreciation for the Spaniard.
The report mentions that Karl-Heinz Rummenigge holds Xabi Alonso in exceptionally high regard, while club CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen is genuinely impressed by his character and growth.
As a testament to their faith in Alonso, they decided to send Josip Stanisic on loan to Leverkusen, confident that Alonso would play a pivotal role in nurturing him into a future star.
It appears that the prospect of Alonso eventually managing Bayern could be a reality after Tuchel’s reign is over.
It’s no secret that despite being relatively young in his managerial career, Alonso has attracted interest from Real Madrid.
While the team from the Spanish capital is quite happy with Carlo Ancelotti at the helm, the Italian mastermind is expected to depart to manage the Brazilian national team after the end of the season.
While Madrid are not bothered about the situation at the moment, it is said that they have marked Alonso as one of the many candidates for this role.
Interestingly enough, the requirement for Real Madrid is more urgent than Bayern’s, to say the very least. However, if there are any mishaps during Tuchel’s reigns this season, things might take a turn for the worst for Madrid as at that point, Alonso will be at the top of Bayern’s list.
