Four things that will “definitely” happen if Declan Rice signs for Man City instead of Arsenal
Manchester City have been tipped to bid for Declan Rice this summer, following two failed bids from Arsenal.
It’s no secret that Mikel Arteta is desperate to bring Rice to the Emirates, having made the 24-year-old midfielder his main transfer target.
The Gunners have received two offers, with the last one worth £90m rejected for Rice, but are expected to return with an improved offer.
However, according to several reports, he is also on Manchester City’s radar, with Pep Guardiola poised to thwart his former colleague’s plans. If West Ham were to make a deal with City for Rice, here are four things that could happen.
Manchester City make history and win their fourth consecutive Premier League title
Guardiola’s winning machine is fresh off completing the treble, which saw him win the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup last season.
And the Spaniard has no intention of lifting his foot off the accelerator, with City’s eyes set on a fourth successive league trophy which would see them surpass Manchester United’s record of three consecutive league titles.
Even without Rice in the squad, City are solid favorites to go on to win the title. But his arrival and the fact that Arsenal have not signed him would give Guardiola even more firepower to fend off his opponents. Arsenal fans will question the club’s transfer strategy
Arsenal’s transfer strategy, led by sporting director Edu Gaspar, has often come under scrutiny.
However, their great form last season caused a mood swing with fans praising the club’s summer and winter season.
Still, Gunners fans have reason to worry after the Mykhailo Mudryk transfer saga.
The north London side were in pole position to sign the Ukraine winger in January, only to see Chelsea snatch him away from them at the last minute.
If they also lose to Rice, many fans will have doubts about the club’s ability to make deals. Kalvin Phillips leaves Manchester City.
Phillips joined City from Leeds United last summer in a deal worth £45m.
However, the England international has struggled to earn his manager’s trust as he hasn’t made a single Premier League appearance all season.
Rice’s likely arrival would all but seal Phillips’ fate as Rodri and Rice appear to have blocked the way for the first team for the foreseeable future.

Arsenal go all-in for Moises Caicedo
Arteta expressed strong interest in signing Caicedo in January but saw Brighton reject two offers worth up to £70million.
They have since turned their attention to Rice, but if City warn them, Arsenal could try to resume their pursuit of Caicedo after he pulled out of the running earlier in the month.
Indeed, if Rice moved to the Etihad, Arsenal would need the funds to compete for Caicedo’s signature, with the Seagulls targeting £80m, according to the Times.
