Jurgen Klopp is pushing Liverpool to rival Arsenal and target the transfer of Juventus winger Federico Chiesa. The Reds have even held talks with his agent, Fali Ramadani.
That is according to Sport Mediaset, which now reports that Klopp has a strong interest for Chiesa to move to Liverpool. He believes the 25-year-old can help the Anfield natives move back into contention for the Premier League title, and thus their Champions League return.
The Reds failed to qualify for UEFA’s elite club competition for the first time since 2016/17 last season. Liverpool would only finish the Premier League season in fifth place for a spot in the Europa League. Next term will be their first return to the competition since 2015/16.
Liverpool hold talks with Juventus winger Chiesa’s agent
Chiesa is firmly in Liverpool’s sights with Klopp pushing the Anfield side to target a transfer for the Juventus winger. The Reds have also now held initial talks with his agent, Ramadani. Club chiefs sought to guarantee they can present a wage that the Bianconeri cannot match.
The 41-cap Italy forward, who Gianluigi Buffon called ‘unbelievable’ at Euro 2020, currently earns £154k-a-weeek in Turin. Juventus only finalised his permanent transfer to the club in May 2022 for £42m. He had been on loan from Fiorentina since October 2020 for £8.5m.
Juventus would now target around €50-60m (£43-51.5m) to let Chiesa leave amid interest from Liverpool and other Premier League sides. But La Repubblica also reported earlier this week that Liverpool are studying making a €40-45m (£34.5-39m) bid as soon as next week.
Arsenal hold an interest in the transfer of the Italy ace
Arsenal are one of the Premier League clubs to also hold an interest in a transfer for Chiesa to pose a potential threat if Liverpool do, indeed, advance for the Juventus ace. Reports by La Repubblica earlier in June also cited the Gunners as a suitor pursuing the Genova native.
The 2022/23 campaign featured as many goals and just two more assists than Chiesa made during 2021/22 from 18 games. His campaign came to an abrupt end in January 2022 after requiring surgery to reconstruct the ACL in his left knee and he only returned in November.
