Liverpool will reportedly look to sign Leroy Sane, whose market value is €65 million, from Bayern Munich in 2024 as a potential Mohamed Salah replacement.
Liverpool are apparently considering making a move for Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane next year as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, according to Calciomercatoweb.
Now the only surviving member of Liverpool’s devastating attacking triumvirate with Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino no longer at Anfield, Salah will be desperate to improve his and the Reds’ form this season. And he is already off the mark with his penalty against Bournemouth last weekend.
While he still managed an impressive 19 goals last season in spite of Liverpool’s stuttering form, the Egyptian did not quite hit his usual levels of brilliance. The Reds’ fan favourite has a further two-year contract at Anfield, meaning Liverpool are already putting together a succession plan and on the lookout for a long-term replacement for a true Liverpool legend.
It is easy to think of a situation where Salah leaves Liverpool at the end of the season in favour of a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia, considering he was already linked with a move to the Middle East earlier this summer.
If that happens, the Reds will need a truly elite wide player to replace his output. Also, the Merseysiders will not want a repeat of this window, where they were left shorthanded following the departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, quoted inflated prices by selling clubs, and embarrassed by a couple of player rejections. So, it’s a good thing to mark down and lay the groundwork behind the transfers beforehand.
As such, Liverpool have identified Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane and Juventus winger Federico Chiesa as potential options, with Jurgen Klopp said to be a great admirer of both wingers.
While Chiesa has previously been linked with a move to Liverpool, Sane is the latest name on the Reds rumour mill. At 27 years old, the former Manchester City speedster is hitting his prime years and has enjoyed an impressive career so far, although he arguably has not quite reached the levels that some expected.
Still regarded as one of the best wingers in Europe, he has scored 40 goals with 37 assists in 135 appearances for Bayern Munich since arriving from Manchester City back in 2020. A 53-capped Germany international, he has helped the reigning Bundesliga champions lift three Bundesliga titles, two German Cups, and a FIFA Club World Cup, highlighting his top-level pedigree.
The winger’s current deal at Bayern expires in the summer of 2025, and although he is currently valued at €65 million by transfermarkt, his value could begin to reduce the closer his contract nears its expiry. It is possible that a move away will happen next year in order to prevent losing him on a free transfer the following summer.
Although Sane is lightning-quick and can produce moments of sheer brilliance every now and then, there are doubts about whether he will be able to deliver a consistent end product as Salah has done throughout the course of his Liverpool career.
The German will also soon turn 28 years old, which contradicts Liverpool’s recruitment strategy as of yet. It will be interesting to see how things develop over the coming months. Liverpool are not likely to make any moves for Sane or Chiesa until at least 2024, with Salah still banging in goals for fun at Anfield.
