Liverpool are now “in contact” with a £119m trio for a move to Anfield
At least one other midfielder will move to Anfield this summer, with Thuram, Kone and Veiga all in talks, Fabrizio Romano has reported.
Liverpool will sign another midfielder this summer, with Manu Kone, Khephren Thuram and Gabri Veiga all in talks with the club, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has said exclusively.
Having already signed Alexis Mac Allister for £35m from Brighton & Hove Albion, sportsman Jurgen Klopp will be eyeing another central midfielder to strengthen his squad.
Liverpool transfer news: Manu Kone, Khephren Thuram and Gabri Veiga. Borussia Monchengladbach’s Kouadio ‘Manu’ Kone has been linked with a move to Anfield, with Aston Villa and Wolves also interested in the 22-year-old according to the report. The all-action central midfielder is valued at around £35m according to the same source. Khephren Thuram, son of French legend Lilian Thuram and a Ligue 1 player for Nice, is also in Liverpool’s sights. They believe Thuram (who is also 22) could move for £50m, although reports that he has already agreed personal terms with the club have been rejected by The Athletic.
A third name is Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga, with Italian journalist Rudy Galetti saying the Reds have a real interest. He is said to have a release clause of just over £34m, making him a very attractive prospect for clubs looking for midfielders.
What did Romano say about Liverpool and Kone, Thuram and Veiga? Romano exclusively said: “They want to be 100% confident about the next move they’re going to make in midfield because after signing Alexis McAllister it’s really important for them now to make sure they find the right player to take him into the full midfield.
“So everyone [Kone, Veiga and Thuram] are in contact with Liverpool, waiting for them to decide who will be the next big target, but surely another midfielder will come.”
Which of the three would be the best signing for Liverpool?
All three would be really strong additions to the Liverpool squad, but as things stand.
Thuram is arguably the more complete midfielder and excels at pushing forward with the ball from deep. Veiga would add the biggest goal threat – with 11 La Liga goals to his name this season – but he could be what Liverpool need the least given their plethora of forwards.
Kone has a very similar profile to Thuram and would also bring some much-needed dynamism to Klopp’s midfield. He is the best ball winner of the three.
