Gary Lineker lavished praise upon Manchester City anchor Rodri for his stunning display in his side’s 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, the well-known pundit gave his two cents on the £63 million (Reuters) man’s suspension and his performance on Saturday.
It’s safe to say that Gary Lineker was mesmerised by Rodri, who was in typically cracking touch for Manchester City against Nottingham Forest.
Branded as ‘sensational’ as well as the world’s best defensive midfielder by Gary Neville, the Spaniard was masterful against Forest before his mindless sending off in the 46th minute.
The 27-year-old’s standout moment emerged in the build-up to Phil Foden’s terrific opener, as he played a sumptuous raking pass to Kyle Walker, who deftly set up the goal.
Now, Gary Lineker has given his two cents on how a suspended Rodri would affect Manchester City, as well as briefly touching on his showing against Nottingham Forest.
He’ll miss three games now and of course, one of those games is Arsenal”, he said.
“It doesn’t seem to matter though; they have plenty of people to come in. But he is obviously a pivotal part of that team and he was absolutely brilliant in the first half.”
Rodri continues to prove that he is the best midfielder in the world
Gary Lineker is spot on as the red card perhaps takes away from how exceptional Rodri was once again for Manchester City as they defeated Nottingham Forest.
In terms of every possible metric, it is hard to pinpoint a single better midfielder in world football than the treble-winner.
Consistency wise, the former Atletico Madrid lynchpin has been the absolute best for two full seasons.
As an overall player, not only is Rodri the dream No.6 but his all-round game, especially in advanced areas is remarkably impressive.
Judging his impact on one of the greatest teams of all time, the three-time Premier League winner may well be his side’s most irreplaceable player, which tells you all you need to know about his magnificence.
