BREAKING NEWS: Salernitana president Finally welcome Wolves target back with out fine

The past few days have been rather dramatic at Salernitana following Wolverhampton Wanderers’ late loan offer for Boulaye Dia, turned down on transfer deadline day.

This caused the player to rebel and subsequently left out of the weekend’s game against Lecce, with him then threatening the club to sit out the first half of the season until January.

While there is some understanding at the Serie A side that he wanted to move to Wolves and the Premier League, they also have to be punish such behaviour, and the club’s president, Danilo Iervolino, has since stated Dia will be fined.

There had been some speculation over the past few days this was on its way, with Corriere dello Sport speculating it would be 15% of his monthly wage, or around €30k

This appears to be backed up by Calciomercato.it, who also relay quotes from Iervolino on the situation following the rejected Wolves offer, who was speaking to Radio Bussola.

He said: “I will personally get involved. I will talk to the player. These things happen in football, the player hearing the bells of the Premier League may have made him want to leave, and that’s OK. They are young and you should never stifle the expectations of young people.

“We have invested a lot in him. He’s an important player and I am convinced that he will come back. Of course, it would be better if it hadn’t happened, but let’s not make a drama out of it. A fine? It seems fair to me. Salernitana is a serious club, it loves and protects its players. We are kind but we have rules that must apply to everyone.”

The 26-year-old has been key to Salernitana since his initial arrival on loan from Villarreal last season, scoring 17 goals in 36 appearances for them, as well as helping out his teammates with six assists.
