Newcastle United are locked in another long, drawn-out transfer saga with Leicester City this time over their winger Harvey Barnes.
After being strung along for over a year by Leicester when it came to James Maddison, Newcastle find themselves in a tug-of-war with the Foxes again over another exciting midfielder, Harvey Barnes.
The difference this time is the feelings around the deal are that it will actually happen. Transfer journalist Ben Jacobs offered an update to Give Me Sport where he said things are still moving along.
Newcastle are making sure they ‘get value’ on the deal for Barnes
“Things are progressing,” said Jacobs. “The Newcastle position has been to make sure that they get value on this.
“Leicester want about £40million and they can push for that number because, over the last month or so, they’ve had interest from quite a lot of clubs.
Although Tottenham‘s interest has ended because Manor Solomon has come in, West Ham and Aston Villa have also looked at making a move. Leicester feel like they can get quite a good price for Barnes.”
There’s a feeling that West Ham and Aston Villa have been copying our homework all summer when it comes to transfer targets so it’s little surprise to see their names linked with another one of our targets.
Discussions need to kick on and numbers need to be discussed
Newcastle and Leicester clearly have some work to do to agree on a figure with The Daily Mail recently reporting that Newcastle were going in at £25million, but they also say that Leicester want £60million which is *taps furiously on calculator* way more than £40million.
Following Matt Law’s update where he suggested that actual figures hadn’t been discussed, it certainly seems about time that Newcastle and Leicester start talking numbers and get the deal done for the player Jurgen Klopp said was ‘unbelievable‘.
Newcastle had hoped to have Barnes through the door before they jet off on their USA tour, but the longer this drags on the less likely that is.
