Lionel Messi’s transfer to MLS franchise Inter Miami will create a wealth of interest in American soccer with Premier League clubs including Liverpool set to benefit.
The Liverpool Echo’s Dave Powell reports that in 2022, “the latest three-year cycle clicked into gear when it came to broadcast rights, with the international rights selling for $6.49billion (£5.05bn), outstripping domestic rights for the very first time. Of that $6.49billion, and $12.86billion (£10bn) overall, $2.57billion (£2bn) of it was from the US, meaning that 20 per cent of the very lifeblood of the Premier League’s income comes from the American market.”
