Liverpool were highly inconsistent at the back before the arrival of Virgil van Dijk in the winter transfer window of 2018.
The Dutch international has completely transformed our back-line with his leadership and in the last campaign, we had the best defensive record in the Premier League (kept most clean sheets and conceded the fewest number of goals).
News – Liverpool line up transfer missions, looking to sign star with £27million clause – Report
If reports (Mirror Sport) in the media are anything to go by then the club’s record signing has agreed a new deal with the Merseysiders that will make him earn around £200,000-a-week, £62.4million in the next six years (2025).
The 28-year-old central defender has won many accolades since moving to Anfield. He deservedly won the PFA Player of the Year award for his world class performances in the last campaign.
Moreover, the former Saints star was vital for us in our Champions League winning campaign and was part of the UCL Team of the Season. Lately, he won the UEFA Defender of the Year and UEFA Player of the Year awards.
He is firm favorite to win the FIFA Player of the Year prize and also the coveted Ballon d’Or trophy.
Therefore, without a shadow of a doubt, Van Dijk deserves a bumper pay rise at Anfield. At the moment, we are on top of the PL table after four fixtures and hopefully, Van Dijk will continue being world class and help us finally win the league.
