Breaking news:Oklahoma Sooners projected to land another Oklahoma State linebacker

The Oklahoma Sooners are poised to bolster their defensive lineup by acquiring linebacker Jeff Roberson from their in-state rivals, the Oklahoma State Cowboys. This move comes on the heels of the Sooners securing former Oklahoma State linebacker/safety Kendal Daniels, marking a significant shift in the state’s collegiate football dynamics.

Roberson, a redshirt senior, emerged as a key player for the Cowboys during the 2024 season. He recorded 58 tackles, including three sacks, seven quarterback hurries, and an interception, showcasing his versatility and defensive prowess. Prior to his breakout season, Roberson contributed mainly on special teams and overcame injuries that sidelined him in 2022. A native of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Roberson joined Oklahoma State as a three-star recruit in 2020. Notably, he did not receive an offer from Oklahoma at that time, making his potential transfer to the Sooners a full-circle moment in his collegiate career.

The Sooners’ interest in Roberson aligns with their recent acquisition of Kendal Daniels, who committed to Oklahoma on January 6, 2025. Daniels, a standout at Oklahoma State, earned accolades such as Freshman All-American and Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year. Over three seasons, he amassed 240 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 13 pass deflections, five interceptions, and two fumble recoveries. Originally from Beggs, Oklahoma, Daniels was the state’s top recruit in 2021. His journey included an initial commitment to Texas A&M before transferring to Oklahoma State, and now, a move to the Sooners.

These strategic additions come at a crucial time for Oklahoma, as they navigate the departure of key defensive players, including All-American linebacker Danny Stutsman and linebackers Dasan McCullough and Lewis Carter. The infusion of experienced talent like Daniels and the anticipated arrival of Roberson are expected to fortify the Sooners’ defense for the upcoming season.

The transfer of players between these rival programs underscores the evolving landscape of college football, where the transfer portal facilitates significant roster changes. The Sooners’ ability to attract talent from their Bedlam rivals not only enhances their defensive capabilities but also adds an intriguing narrative to the storied rivalry between the two schools.

As the Sooners prepare for the 2025 season, the integration of these seasoned defenders will be pivotal in their quest to dominate the Big 12 and make a national impact. Fans and analysts alike will be keen to observe how these acquisitions translate on the field and influence the dynamics of Oklahoma football.
