Saturday afternoon, the Carolina Panthers announced that tight end Ian Thomas has been placed on injured reserve with a calf injury. Filling his spot on the active roster is fellow tight end Stephen Sullivan, who is coming off IR after missing the first five games of the season with a hip.
Thomas has been targeted four times this season and has just two receptions for 36 yards. In five seasons and some change with the Panthers, Thomas has recorded 113 receptions for 1,035 yards and four touchdowns. Although he doesn’t pose as a serious threat in the passing game, he is considered to be one of the better blocking tight ends in the league.
