Bernardo Silva has verbally agreed to sign a new contract at Manchester City according to Fabrizio Romano.
After being linked with a move away from the Manchester club earlier in the summer, it was reported that the Citizens had offered the midfielder an improved contract to try and keep him at the Etihad Stadium.
Now though, a big behind-the-scenes development has emerged regarding the 29-year-old’s immediate future.
In a recent Twitter post, Romano had this to say on the matter.
He said: “Bernardo Silva has now verbally agreed to sign new contract at Manchester City — formally confirmed his decision to the club.
“City expect Bernardo to sign contracts by the end of next week. Understand new deal will be valid until June 2026.”
Since arriving at the Manchester club back in 2017 in a deal worth £43m, the Portuguese international has made 308 appearances across all competitions, scoring 55 goals, delivering 59 assists and winning five Premier League titles along the way.
Having featured in all but six of City’s games last season, it’s easy to see why the club have been looking to keep Silva where he is by offering him a new deal.
Even though this proposed deal that Romano mentioned would only see the player increase his contract at City by an extra year, this would surely put to bed any concerns about him potentially leaving the club this summer.
Moving forward, if the midfielder were to put pen to paper on a new deal in the coming days and weeks, this would surely be a big positive for everyone at City, especially since they’ve said goodbye to Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez this summer and will be without Kevin De Bruyne for the next four months due to injury.
