Barcelona have decided not to execute the purchase option or the right of first refusal on Santos FC winger Angelo Gabriel, who is likely to join a Premier League club this summer, reports Joaquim Piera of SPORT.

The 18-year-old Santos prodigy is regarded as one of the most exciting talents in Brazil and has already made close to 130 senior appearances despite his young age. He has five goals and ten assists to show far in that time.

Barcelona have had their eyes on Gabriel for a long while now and had even secured a purchase option and a right of first refusal for the left-footed winger with Santos back in 2022.

Defender Kayky Fernandes too was part of a similar agreement between the two clubs, but the Blaugrana decided against activating either clause for him last summer when he joined Almeria.

And now, the La Liga champions have decided against executing the buy option or the right of first refusal for Angelo Gabriel as well despite having tested the possibility of his arrival in January earlier this year.

Having come close to signing for Nottingham Forest in the winter window, the 18-year-old is now bound to sign for Chelsea as per the report, with the Blues likely to shell out around €15 million for the winger’s services before loaning him out.

If Barcelona were not struggling with the Financial Fair Play situation, the picture could have turned out differently and they might have opted to make a move for Gabriel. However, given the current circumstances, the 18-year-old does not feature in the club’s transfer plans.

But, the Catalans are working hard to sign his compatriot Vitor Roque from Athletico Paranaense. Even though a €45 million agreement is in place, Barcelona will find it very difficult to register the 18-year-old striker this summer if they do not make a few important sales at the earliest possible.
