C.J. Goodwin, a longtime leader and double-team magnet on the Cowboys’ special-teams’ units, is back for a seventh season.
The cornerback agreed Tuesday to a one-year contract, a person close to the situation told The Dallas Morning News on Thursday. Goodwin arguably was en route to his first career Pro Bowl appearance in 2023 before a Week 5 pectoral tear required season-ending surgery.
Goodwin, 34, finished with three solo tackles on special teams. That was second-most on the team despite Goodwin having missed the final 12 games.
In the five games Goodwin played, kicker Brandon Aubrey produced a touchback on 31 of 32 kickoffs. Goodwin recorded the tackle on the only kickoff returned in that span; his other two solo tackles came in punt coverage.
