“I  think it was a secret that Miami is where I wanted to go when I asked for a trade,” Lillard said on SiriusXM NBA Radio. “It was more of a thing when this conversation even started. It was like, ‘We’re not going to be able to build this team out. We’ll help you get to where you want to go.’ And that was where I wanted to go.”

Lillard also said that it was his agent who brought the interest to the Milwaukee Bucks about two weeks before the trade. He said,

“I knew it was a possibility, I just didn’t think it was actually going to happen. So when it did, I wasn’t fully surprised, but it wasn’t what I thought that call was going to be.”

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, he reported that Lillard’s former team Portland Trail Blazers asked for more than the Heat were willing to offer.

Also, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that Lillard believed his former team had no intention of trading him to his preferred destination.

Commenting on the trade to Milwaukee, Lillard said he really liked the fit basketball-wise and was interested in playing alongside Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo.
