It so happened that the Los Angeles Lakers needed a hero.
LeBron James made the decision to handle things himself when the team was trailing the Los Angeles Clippers by 19 points going into the fourth quarter and was about to suffer another heartbreaking loss.
After turning back time, the 21-year-old veteran defeated Father Time once more, scoring 19 of his 34 points during the last frame.
Leading the way, the Lakers defeated the Clippers by 23 points in the last frame to win by four points.
In the last quarter, the Lakers’ defence stopped the Clippers to just 16 points, so he even outscored them on his own.
It was about time the superstar pulled out his cape and led the squad to victory, according to coach Darvin Ham, who showered his with praise after the victory (via NBA Central).
Since James came to town, the Clippers have dominated the Lakers for a considerable amount of time.
This was the kind of statement victory that may spark the Purple & Gold, a squad that has occasionally demonstrated the ability to play lockdown defence but hasn’t been able to do it consistently.
The Lakers are at No. 9 in the Western Conference, only half a game ahead of the Golden State Warriors, after their 32nd victory of the year.
They need to play this kind of defensive identity every night of the season, but they could yet get hot in the latter stages to avoid the Play-in Tournament.
