Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly working on a deal to sign highly-rated Celta Vigo youngster Gabri Veiga ahead of a host of Premier League clubs, including the likes of Liverpool and Newcastle.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a tremendous 2022/23 campaign, scoring 11 goals and adding four assists in 40 games for the club in all competitions as Celta finished 13th in the LaLiga table.
That form has attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs for a player who has a €40million (£34.6million) release clause in his contract.
At that price, considering Veiga’s tender age, it’s no surprise whatsoever that Liverpool, Newcastle, Chelsea and Manchester City have all shown an interest in his services.
Indeed, Chelsea are said to be looking at the Celta star as a potential replacement for Manchester United-bound Mason Mount
However, it appears that PSG have stolen a march on their English rivals by moving ‘quickly’ to get a deal done.
According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, PSG ‘have made good progress’ in their bid to sign Veiga, with a medical already booked.
Negotiations are now ‘advanced’ despite significant interest from the four Premier League, as well as Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.
PSG confident of sealing Veiga capture
The report adds that PSG are hopeful Veiga’s medical will be passed by the end of the week, even though there is no mention of a transfer fee actually being agreed.
Incoming PSG manager Luis Enrique ‘knows Veiga well’ and the feeling is that a switch to Paris will be completed.
As for Newcastle’s interest in the player, they remain on the hunt for new recruits despite landing Sandro Tonali on Monday.
Liverpool are also keen on bringing in one more midfielder to add to the signings of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szobaszlai as Jurgen Klopp continues the overhaul of his engine room.

However, it appears that both clubs will have to switch their focus away from Veiga as PSG look to wrap up a deal as soon as possible.
