he Reds have been heavily linked with a move for Gravenberch throughout the summer transfer window. But with Bayern reportedly unwilling to sanction a sale, nothing has progressed so far.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano though, that could still change. Speaking on his YouTube channel yesterday, Romano said that although the German champions are standing firm for now, Gravenberch is pushing hard for a Premier League move.
“The big problem with Gravenberch is Bayern,” began the journalist. “They want to keep Gravenberch, they don’t want to sell him. But in the last two, three days, Gravenberch is insisting to consider some possibilities in the Premier League.
“Liverpool called to be informed on the situation exactly as they did for [Sofyan] Amrabat, but they never submitted a bid.
So let’s see if they will decide to enter the race with an official proposal or not. But at the moment, nothing advanced yet.
“Bayern are the big issue because they don’t want to sell the player. But in case Bayern will give the green light in the final days of the window, keep an eye on Liverpool, but especially Manchester United.”
Gravenberch pushing for move
As far as things stand right now, we’d be surprised if Liverpool – or Man United – end up with Gravenberch this summer.
The player himself has seemingly been pushing for a move since before the end of last season. But so far, Bayern have refused to relent.
With less than two weeks now left of the window, we don’t see why they would change that stance now.
Up until this point, the Netherlands international has been rumoured to be valued at around £43m [Tuttomercatoweb]. Perhaps a big advancement on that could tempt the Munich side.
But Liverpool have been steadfast in their determination not to overpay this summer. That fee already looks on the hefty side for a player who didn’t have the best of campaigns last time out. It feels unlikely that they’d want to go too much higher.
United may be more likely to do so, but they’ve got a pretty full squad right now. Unless they can move a couple on, there doesn’t look to be space for Gravenberch.
So, perhaps this is one to ‘keep an eye on,’ as Romano says. With plenty of other cards in play though, we’re not expecting too much movement, no matter how hard the 21-year-old insists.
