The latest report out of Spain on the t Clement Lenglesituation claims Tottenham and Barcelona are taking ‘decisive steps’ to get a deal arranged that suits all parties.
After spending the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Spurs, Lenglet has returned to Spain to discuss his future and seems highly likely that his future does not lie with Barcelona.
The print edition of Sport (18/7/723 via Sport Witness) recently claimed Barca boss Xavi Hernandez did not want Lenglet to be part of his pre-season squad for the trip to the United States.
The Catalan giants are eager to get Lenglet’s salary off their books as soon as possible and Spurs have long been thought to be the likely destination for the Frenchman.
More recently, Sport (print edition 25/07/23 via Sport Witness) revealed Ligue 1 outfit Marseille had joined the race for Lenglet, but it is believed the Lilywhites still have the upper hand as the player himself would prefer to return to North London.
Barcelona looking to make Lenglet exit happen
Now, the latest from Sport suggests the positive relationship between Barca and Spurs could make it easier to get a deal over the line, with another loan spell being mooted.
Apparently, the Spanish side want things resolved in the next week and are taking ‘decisive steps’ in order to make that happen.
Barcelona could be willing to agree to another loan deal, with a mandatory purchase clause, in order to move Lenglet on this summer.
The ‘good relations’ that exist between the two clubs has helped to get negotiations back on track after Barca’s trip to the US had hindered discussions.
It feels as though the only reason we want to sign Lenglet is because of how cheap we might be able to obtain him for. I would much rather us save the money we would spend on Lenglet and his wages and put it towards a better centre-back
