Tottenham’s current focus on the striker position is the future of Harry Kane, but they are also looking toward who may be replacing him down the line. Reports are now suggesting that Spurs’ have agreed to personal terms with a phenomenal young talent. Fabrizio Romano is reporting Tottenham is in active talks to sign Rosario Central’s Alejo Veliz, who has verbally agreed to a long-term contract with the club.
With negotiations continuing, Romano reports that Rosario Central is keen on bringing back Veliz for the Copa de la Liga Profesional, which runs until November. The same deal happened between Manchester City and River Plate for Argentine striker Julian Alvarez in 2022. At just 19 years old, Veliz still has plenty of time to make the large jump to the Premier League, so a loan back may work best for all parties.
Tottenham looks to be eyeing many striker targets, so there’s always potential that they don’t sign a Harry Kane replacement but sign multiple Harry Kane replacements. Richarlison also needs to show more life under Ange Postecoglou after scoring just a single Premier League goal last season.
Alejo Veliz had an impressive 11 goals in 23 matches in the Argentina Primera Division, building off 6 in 26 last year. He joined Rosario Central’s academy setup in 2019 and made his senior debut in 2021.
Interest in Veliz really took off when he was one of Argentina’s top performers at the most recent U20 World Cup. Despite a poor overall performance from the squad, Veliz bagged a goal in every group stage match before Argentina’s loss to Nigeria in the Round of 16. Daily Mail echo reports that suggest Veliz could leave Rosario Central for around £13m, which 3-4 years down the line may be seen as a bargain for Tottenham. The club will have to prepare for life after Harry Kane, and it looks like Alejo Veliz is a prime candidate to cushion the departure.
