Last week, we relayed a report from The Telegraph which claimed that Tottenham had identified Gallagher as an option to replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who could leave the North London club this summer.
The report added that West Ham were also interested in the Blues Academy graduate, who was said to be valued at £50m.
The Daily Mail subsequently reported on Thursday morning that Ange Postecoglou is an admirer of Gallagher’s energetic approach and believes he would fit in well to his system.
Football Insider have now claimed that Chelsea have told interested clubs that they would have to pay £40m for the England international.
The report reveals that West Ham have already begun work on signing Gallagher, having first contacted the Blues over a deal last weekend.
The outlet adds that the Hammers are looking to bring the player’s price down to around £30m but they now soon have competition to contend with from Tottenham for the midfielder.
Spurs Web Opinion
If Chelsea are willing to sell Gallagher for £40m, I have absolutely no doubt that Spurs would enter the race for the 23-year-old’s signature sooner rather than later.
However, I fear that the Blues might prefer to sell the player to West Ham rather than a potential direct rival for a top four/top six spot.
