Fulham have pulled out of the race to sign Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, with Nottingham Forest now facing a battle with Everton to sign him. The Reds are still keen to add to their squad before the transfer window closes.
According to Tom Roddy from The Times, Hudson-Odoi is still keen to leave Chelsea before the deadline. The Blues value him at £8 million and it’s thought that the player is willing to take a substantial pay cut on his £120,000-a-week wage.
Forest might be in the market for a winger very soon. Intriguingly, Brennan Johnson has been linked with a move to sign for Chelsea and the club’s interest in Hudson-Odoi might help smooth that deal through.
The 22-year-old needs to go to a club where he can rediscover himself. Last season he was on loan with Bayer Leverkusen but due to injuries, he managed just 21 appearances, scoring once and claiming one assist.
At Chelsea, he’s actually played 126 times. He was tipped for very big things when he first burst onto the scene, scoring 16 goals and claiming 22 assists during his time playing for the Stamford Bridge giants.
Forest head coach Steve Cooper knows all about Hudson-Odoi. He was part of the England Under-17 team that tasted World Cup glory back in 2017 and he could be the perfect boss for him.
Frank Lampard seemed to get some solid performances out of Hudson-Odoi. Back in October 2019, he called him ‘special’ after a win over Newcastle in which the winger stood out.
Fulham pull out of race to sign Forest target Hudson-Odoi
It’s a bit of a bonus for Forest that Fulham have pulled out of the race. Being in London, they might have been a more tempting offer for Hudson-Odoi to consider.
Now, it looks as though the player has the choice between Forest and Everton. It’s not clear whether either club have made offers as of yet but they’re both keen.
The Reds might just have a pull over Everton. Hudson-Odoi knows that his next career move is massive and Cooper might just be the perfect manager for him.
The club will need a new forward if Johnson leaves this summer. Given Cooper’s relationship with the player, perhaps a move to Forest would be perfect for Hudson-Odoi.
