Liverpool are reportedly expected to meet Southampton’s £50m asking price for Romeo Lavia, with the Reds already having three bids rejected for the midfielder.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Merseyside giants are now ready to pay Lavia’s transfer fee having come under fire this week from fans and pundits for not meeting Southampton’s demands immediately.
Liverpool have been linked with Lavia for the majority of the summer with Jurgen Klopp’s side trying their hardest not to match Southampton’s £50m demands for their teenage midfielder.
However, having had three bids turned down by the Saints for Lavia, Liverpool finally look ready to bite the bullet and offer Southampton what they have been looking for in the prospect all summer.
Praised by Jadon Sancho as a ‘special’ player, £50m could soon look like a bargain for Liverpool if the midfielder turns out good. And this transfer should have been wrapped up weeks ago. stubbornness over Lavia’s asking price is understandable given how good the midfielder is for his age, and Liverpool should be annoyed with how long it has taken them to meet the Saints’ demands.
As we know, Lavia is arguably the best young defensive midfielder in Europe, and Liverpool are more than aware that signing the 19-year-old for £50m could be worth it if the teenager hits the ground running at Anfield.
Indeed, such a price tag for a player who could start for Liverpool for the next five to ten years will be considered a bargain for most fans, and the Reds should have come to this realisation earlier in the window
