Mark Schwarzer has hinted that Josko Gvardiol should have joined Liverpool this summer instead of Manchester City.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, the pundit suggested that the Croatian international could have been good signing for the Reds before Pep Guardiola’s side won the race for the defender’s signature.
As per Sky Sports News, the reigning Premier League champions signed the 21-year-old for £78m, a fee Liverpool were simply never going to match even for a talent as good as Gvardiol.
With Liverpool failing to sign a defender, the Reds have potentially missed out on landing one of the best young players in world football.
And Schwarzer believes the Anfield side could have been a good destination for the defender, with Liverpool in need of depth in the centre-back position.
Schwarzer said when asked about the Croatian superstar: “I thought Gvardiol was a good option for Liverpool. But, of course, Manchester City got him.”
Liverpool could regret not pushing City for Gvardiol

Midfield was always the area of the squad Liverpool were going to focus on this summer, yet the defence could have received some much-needed TLC, with Gvardiol a dream signing.
Had Liverpool qualified for the UEFA Champions League, the defender could have been a realistic target for the Reds during the window.
However, as we know, nothing is ever perfect in Liverpool’s world, and Gvardiol’s move to City felt guaranteed the second the Anfield side were confirmed out of next season’s Champions League.
