Jesse Lingard reportedly played for West Ham in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Ipswich on Thursday.
The Hammers are said to be considering whether to offer the former Nottingham Forest forward a contract after he was released by the Reds this summer.
Lingard struggled to impress during his time at the City Ground after arriving on a free transfer last summer. The former Manchester United player scored just twice for the Reds with both goals coming in the Carabao Cup.
The 30-year-old also saw his game time limited in his final few months at the club having played just two minutes for Steve Cooper’s side since they lost 3-1 to Tottenham in March.
And now amid recent reports that West Ham are interested in bringing Lingard back to the London Stadium, the Hammers’ apparent interest in him appears to have gone a step further.
MailOnline report that Lingard featured in a friendly on Thursday. The Hammers have remained tight-lipped over the result or how Lingard performed but his appearance will fuel speculation that he could be set for a Premier League return.
Manager David Moyes is said to be “impressed” by his application in training as they consider offering him a contract. The London club will be able to sign him out of the transfer window due to his free-agent status.
