Reports have claimed that Southampton have now rejected Chelsea’s recent bid to sign midfielder Romeo Lavia.
According to The Times, the Saints remain insistent on holding out for their asking price that both the Blues and Liverpool have so far failed to meet
It has been widely expected over the last few weeks that a deal for Liverpool to sign Lavia would be reached after negotiations between those clubs has continued.
The Reds, who will travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday for their first Premier League game of the season, were reportedly very close to the asking price set by the Championship side for his services.
However, late last night news broke that Chelsea had made a sensational offer to sign the youngster. The bid is said to have topped any offer made up to this point by Liverpool.
Chelsea bid rejected for Caicedo
Originally, it was claimed that Southampton had not yet decided whether to accept or reject the bid, with it being so close to what they are holding out for
Now though, it has been claimed the bid is set to be rejected, which makes things a lot more interesting when looking at the wider picture.
Both clubs have also been credited with interest for Mosies Caicedo, Chelsea’s number one transfer target for this summer.
Claims today even stated at one point that the Blues have been outbid by their opening day Premier League opponents.
However, this has since reportedly been denied by Brighton themselves, who claimed that an official bid is yet to come in, and only preliminary talks have taken place.
It feels like each side will end up with one midfielder each, although at this stage it remains to be seen who goes where.
