Dan Owen nothing
Basel director Heiko Vogel has joked that Liverpool would have to pay £100 million for Andy Diouf with the up-and-coming midfielder catching the eye of the Premier League giants.
Ok, the France U21 international will not leave St Jakob’s Park for quite such an eye-watering sum. But Basel will most-definitely make a substantial profit on a player who saw his £5 million option-to-buy clause triggered only a few weeks ago following an outstanding loan spell in Switzerland from Ligue 1 outfit Stade de Rennes.
20-year-old Andy Diouf set up seven goals and scored three of his own for Basel in 2022/23. One of those came against Fiorentina in the UEFA Conference League semi-finals; a fabulous solo effort which showcased Diouf’s athleticism, ball-carrying ability and peerless technique.
Bayern Munich have been linked. The Bundesliga champions signed Diouf’s former Rennes team-mate Mathys Tel last year.
Corriere dello Sport, meanwhile, report that Liverpool joined a number of Serie A clubs in sending scouts to watch Diouf during that Fiorentina clash, La Viola fighting back from a first-leg defeat to set up a meeting with West Ham United in Prague on June 7th.

Andy Diouf is another midfielder on Liverpool’s radar
“We know that these (Diouf and team-mate Zeki Amdouni) are very, very interesting players for other clubs,” Vogel, Basel’s sporting director and interim head coach, tells Nau.
“Now we just have to wait for an offer and then see if that suits us or not.”
When pressed further on how much Diouf could cost, Vogel quipped; “100 million!”
The true size of Diouf’s price-tag, as things stand, remains unconfirmed. The rangy, 6ft 2ins playmaker should come a lot cheaper than some of Liverpool’s more high-profile midfield targets, meanwhile, with Jude Bellingham and Moises Caicedo too expensive and Mason Mount setting his sights on a move to North West rivals Manchester United.

Honestly? I don’t give a damn about that!” Diouf told Watson earlier this month when asked about the rumours linking him with a summer move to a European giant.
“I can concentrate well on football and stay calm.
“I’m pleased about (Basel signing me). This season, I was able to develop well, got a lot of playing time and was able to show all my qualities in the Swiss league and in the Europa League.”
