DONE DEAL: Liverpool officially announced €60M third summer signing

Liverpool are preparing an official first offer for Romeo Lavia although there conflicting reports on how much the Reds are willing to offer.

Jurgen Klopp is well underway with his midfield build. After releasing Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from their contracts, Liverpool’s recruitment team acted swiftly to add two midfielders to the ranks.

A total of £95M has been spent on Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai so far

Liverpool want Lavia but it’s not a straightforward deal
Liverpool want to sign Lavia this summer but there are a number of factors making progress more difficult to come by than in talks to sign either Mac Allister or Szoboszlai.

In the latter’s case, the Reds acted quickly to sign the Hungarian even though they felt RB Leipzig were requesting more than the player is.

Liverpool preparing €60M first bid for potential third summer signing
This was due to the German club being likely to ask for a higher fee once his release clause (£60M) expired at midnight on 30 June. As for Mac Allister, his bargain £35M exit clause made agreeing a deal with Brighton much more straightforward.
In Lavia’s case, Liverpool are being held up by a number of factors, including:

Southampton want £50M but Liverpool feel that is too high for a 19-year-old that played his first professional season in 2022/23
Liverpool have spent £95M so there is now a greater need to make every penny they spend count to stay within their budget
Arsenal are interested as well placing the Reds in a difficult position. They are unhappy with Southampton’s price but are wary of the Gunners returning and leading them into a bidding war
