Tottenham ‘set to reach James Maddison agreement’ as Spurs close in on third signing.
Tottenham have been busy at the start of the summer transfer window.
Tottenham have reportedly reached a breakthrough in talks with Leicester and an ‘agreement’ to sign James Maddison could reportedly be made this week. Spurs have already had a busy start to the window with a deal in place for goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario while Dejan Kulusevski signed on a permanent basis.
Tottenham’s aren’t expected to be finished there either with Ange Postecoglou set to be financially backed this summer. Bolstering the club’s midfield is a top priority and Leicester’s Maddison is seen as the No 1 target.
Newcastle were considered Tottenham’s closest rivals, but the north east club have turned its focus to Sandro Tonali. It’s left Tottenham with a free run at Maddison and The Athletic now claim the London outfit are ‘heavy favourites’ for his signature.
It’s reported that both Tottenham and Leicester are ‘still in talks’, but an agreement is close.
There’s still some distance between the clubs in terms of fee with Leicester pushing for a deal worth in the region of £60million. But Tottenham are said to be only willing to offer £40m up front plus add-ons.
Leicester are in a weaker negotiating position following their relegation from the Premier League as well as Maddison having just one year left on his contract. And Newcastle’s dropped interest makes a bidding war less likely to rise up the price.
