Véliz is obviously a signing for the future and isn’t expected to compete for a spot in the first team this season.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the agreement between Tottenham and Rosario Central in the wee hours of London’s Friday morning.
Spurs €15 million bid plus add-ons has been accepted by the Argentine Primera División side. Véliz’s medical will occur in the coming days, which will confirm the transfer.
He will sign a five-year contract at Tottenham, taking him through the end of the 2027-28 campaign.
Véliz scored 11 goals and added an assist in 23 appearances in the 2022-23 Argentine Primera División. He scored two braces and has made nine appearances for the Under-20 Argentina national team.
t’s a permanent deal with no loan stipulation, meaning Veliz is a Tottenham player with immediate effect.
However, Ange prioritizes youth development, providing an idyll opportunity for the talented 19-year-old to see some senior match time, probably in the Carabao Cup initially.
He’s not, I repeat, not a Harry Kane replacement, but he is seen as a forward who can thrive at an elite level.
While many South American talents with bundles of potential struggle to adapt to the physical rigour of the top flight, signing Véliz at such an impressionable age bodes well for Spurs, who can leave grooming and developing him in Ange’s more-than-capable hands.
Let’s hope we see here we go! at least two more times before the weekend commences, one for Ashley Phillips and, most importantly, for Micky van de Ven.
